In my research into film conventions, the one that appears more out the rest is horror, in horrors there are many sub genres, we see different elements added to the films for example, (silent hill) it uses the sub genre of psychological for the movie, and also shows solitude by having the main character shown to be alone in wide open spaces with no life around, they have done this by using wide shots, tracking, and long shots. We have used the same conventions in our film to show a similar effect,
We also used fade outs showing credits during the breaks instead of rolling them all out at the beginning; this is used a lot in opening sequences in horror films, such as (28 days later)
In the opening scene, the two main characters are shown using a high angle - long shot, which by showing solitude and looking down on the characters showing there vulnerability, and in another scene we see low-key lighting in a small room, with both characters talking, using this it gives off a dark and eerie atmosphere for the scene, we also see in the next shot type, a mid-shot of the characters and the style and clothing, - for the tall character, we see him in a “Korn” shirt (a metal band) long hair and ripped jeans, which represents him as being grungy, the other character is represented as a skater, with skinny jeans, and a plan-b hoody (skate brand).
The target audience I have tried to appeal to are between fifteen and twenty-two, because most of the people who go to see a horror are between this age. Also by using our questionnaire we have seen people were very keen on the idea of solitude and thought the story behind the movie worked very well. To do the filming we used a Sony- hand held and tri-pod. We also used windows movie-maker for the editing, whilst using this we have explored many different conventions for example the use of heavy wind blowing as a sound effect. A very old school technique, used in films such as “Evil Dead” we also explored the use of handheld camera for running scenes to build up suspense and show energy, this is also used in the film "Dog Soldiers" which after looking at gave me the idea of using this to build up the adrenalin and set the seen.
My skills since the pilimary task have improved in such a way that when we had filmed that, we had used a few diffrent shot types, but made it simple without any real editing done to it, we mainly put it together through splicing, but in the main task we have made use of the tools for editing a movie and adding sound and text, also - mis-en scene; in the pliarmy task we had not focused on the costume and way people looked during it, whereas in the main task we had put effort into makin the two characters have completley diffrent appeacences showing each one in a diffrent lable/sub-fashion. also by learning how to use the tripod to its full advantage we have been apble to manipulate the spaces we were in to show creative and new angles instead of keeping the shots at mid-height. also the use of editing sound and changing the brightness and contrast of the set to show the use of low key lighting, have been used in the main task.
do more evaluation you douche!!! ;)
